Adam Brody of “Nobody Wants This”: I ‘tried real hard’ to land a hosting gig on Blue’s Clues — my most sought-after audition to date!

In what reads as an adorable bombshell, Adam Brody internet’s favorite Seth Cohen of The O.C. and, more recently, Netflix’s Nobody Wants This let us all in on the act he’s most regretful about auditioning for: the host of Blue’s Clues. Yes, your favorite Fred “I would have loved it” moment actually comes from the late ’90s innocent dog show about clues.

In an authentically exuberant roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter, Brody — now 45 years old — share with a paid up smile: “I really wanted Blue’s Clues early on when I first moved to LA…I took real hard,” referring to his hopeful audition from 1999 for the same part that Steve Burns eventually championed. Just imagine Brody in that classic green striped sweater, deciphering clues with Blue “It was a show for toddlers,” he added, “But it’s all of those early ones.”

But Brody’s sad audition history is not done there. He also tried out for role on Dawson’s Creek (lost out to Michael Pitt) and sweated through the screen tests alongside Scott Speedman.

“Before long, Adam found his groove as Lane’s bandmate in Gilmore Girls, and then catapulted into teen icon status as Seth Cohen delightfully charming, sarcastic, instantly relatable.

Now, Adam is riding a renaissance: Golden Globe nominee, serious Emmy buzz, Nobody Wants This blows up as an overnight sensation, and his fans stopping him in the street and flipping their phones in front of him to text each other in excitement. It’s mind-blowing how quickly and how many people are identifying with it.

And this candid moment of Brody recounting his initial struggle only makes his charming persona more human. If it wasn’t for fate, could we have traded in Steve for Seth? Maybe not. But now, hearing Brody speak about it with such raw honesty and sincere humility, just cements the fact that his trip to the stars was littered with blue crayon dreams and a honed sense of commitment.

So yes: that earnest 19yearold Adam Brody did indeed have dreams filled with pea-sized toddlers and paw prints. He tried really, really hard. While fate chose Steve Burns, Adam Brody’s journey led him to something much bigger and hopefully reminds us all: sometimes the road not taken is just as significant in shaping who we are.”
