Citizens of Oz, the long-awaited trailer for Wicked: For Good has arrived, and it is wonderful. The sequel to the 2024 blockbuster Wicked is out – fans around the world are ecstatic.
Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba also has an emotional reunion with Ariana Grande as Glinda, telling her, “You’re the only friend I ever had,” to which Glinda replies, “And I’ve had so many friends!”
Wicked: For Good, directed by Jon M. Chu, follows the continuing story of the two witches from the Land of Oz. As the trailer shows, it looks like the tone has become much darker and is focused on the restoration of the friendship between Glinda and Elphaba.
After the events of the first film, Elphaba is now a fugitive, and the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum) is on the hunt along with Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), who is head of the Wizard’s Guard.
The trailer shows familiar moments, as Elphaba soars about on a broom and writes “Our Wizard Lies” across the sky, and Glinda practices for her wedding to Fiyero.
There are flashes of recognizable faces as well, such as Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion, hinting at the Wizard of Oz connection.
Among many musical treats in the trailer are strong versions of “No Good Deed” and “For Good,” as sung by Grande and Erivo. The film will also include two new songs written by Schwartz. Adding depth to the narrative.
On the big screen for one day only, Jon M. Chu’s Wicked is also re-released in theaters on June 4, giving audiences a special peek behind the curtain with the trailer for the sequel of Wicked: For Good, releasing in theaters on November 21, 2025, including Act Two of the musical.
Director Jon M. Chu stated that the sequel goes “deeper” with characters’ emotional journeys and explores new themes of friendship, identity, and the consequences of choices.
The decision to split the story into two movies was to allow a “better adaptation” of the Broadway musical that audiences fell in love with.
Wicked: For Good appears to be a visually stunning and emotionally satisfying film, catering to both hardcore fans and new audiences alike. Between the excellence of the cast, the brilliant music, and the depth of storytelling, this film will easily be one of the biggest movies of the holiday season.
