Sylmar Studios: Hollywood’s New Production Powerhouse

Spread the love

Sylmar Studios is Hollywood’s newest, high-tech production hub designed for the modern entertainment era.

In Sylmar, California, a new global giant in film and television production has just opened its doors. It is called Sylmar Studios, and it officially opened in January 2025. This has been a significant benefit to the infrastructure for Hollywood.

Sylmar Studios has many one-of-a-kind features, with 6 soundstages, purpose-built with catwalks and performance areas, that total approximately 230,000 to 300,000 square feet.

The site has production offices that total up to 100,000 square feet, equipped with green rooms, wardrobe and makeup areas, and dressing rooms. Concierge services are available to support operations. The campus provides a covered 600-space parking garage to relieve a frequent hiccup in studio production-related frustrations.

Sylmar Studios was developed from the ground up, with the client’s objectives in mind. Including:

  • A high-speed digital network with individual distribution frames (IDFs) for each production.
  • MPA Trusted Partner Network (TPN) status, making it the first independent-for-rent studio to get this designation.
  • TPN provides firm protection of physical assets, as well as safeguarding intellectual property.
  • An environmentally friendly approach: zero waste initiative and green studio operations.

The technology is also future-ready with a switch, customized control of the network, and plans to integrate further with an efficient central plant system.

Patrick Dempsey, the studio’s President and General Manager, and Tony Guanci, the CEO, are embracing a “boutique” yet ambitious commitment to expansion. With 40 years of experience and stints at large studios, such as DreamWorks and Fox, Dempsey will bring with him a wealth of valuable knowledge.

They want customers to keep coming back, thinking about more than just infrastructure–the studio also offers flexible frontline support.

The studio is located in a federal Opportunity Zone, which is a tax incentive that facilitates investment in distressed, lower-income areas, and in addition to supporting AB 630, a California Assembly bill that provides a 5% tax credit for a production located in an opportunity zone.

Local leaders such as L.A. City Councilmember Monica Rodriguez considers Sylmar Studios a transformational investment for the San Fernando Valley because it brings film industry jobs closer to where many crew members reside.

Sylmar Studios is rolling out at a time when California wants productions to stay in California, competing with Canada, Europe, and other states in the U.S.
AB 630 and the studio being in an Opportunity Zone make the economic incentives line up.

There is a lot of redevelopment going on across Los Angeles, and new improvements at CBS Television City and Warner Bros.’ expansion of soundstages show there is a larger renaissance of local production infrastructure.

Their core philosophy is to support artists, technicians, and production crews by providing smart design, thoughtful infrastructure, serious tech capabilities, and attentive service.
Sylmar Studios is more than a collection of buildings; it is a purpose-built production campus that offers all of the following:

  • Purpose-built stages and offices
  • State-of-the-art technology and security
  • Environmental and community-friendly practices
  • Local hiring and growth, financial incentives

As demand for streaming and film production continues to grow in Los Angeles, Sylmar Studios is well-positioned as a modern production hub built for today, with growth in mind for tomorrow!
